As I look back on this year, I cannot help but be torn between the happiness I feel for my friends as they battle their way through various cancers and celebrate their victories and the sadness I feel for loosing my grandfather. He was a HUGE part of life - he still is and always will be - but knowing that I cannot pick up the phone and talk to him or give him a hug when I go home, well, it breaks my heart.
See, my grandfather, Joseph E. Vaught, lived to be 98 years old. The youngest of eight children, he was the last of his siblings to cross over the rainbow into eternity. He was not afraid and knew his Christ well. I have know doubt I will see him again when my turn comes. He left behind a legacy. He left behind multiple generation of stubborn, independent, stand-up for what is right, God-fearing, God-loving men and women who will raise their children to be the same.
He also left behind my grandmother, Dr. Grace C. Vaught. He was her knight in shining armor. She misses him more than anyone on this earth has missed anyone. She stays distraught no matter how we try to keep her entertained - and this is why my heart breaks so much. There is no medicine to take away the pain she feels, nor enough hugs to fill her void. She knows he is safe and that she too will see him again one day, but with 68 1/2 years of marriage behind her, she knows nothing else. He was her rock and encourager. He was so in love with her. Everyday he told her how beautiful she is, and how much he loved her. He would tell anyone that came to visit or stopped to talk to him when out in town. He wrote poetry for her and about her all the days of her life. He wrote a whole book of poetry and had it published, dedicated to her (as well as all of the novels he wrote). Yes, he was a published author.
My grandfather was a professional "woman watcher" as he put it too. My grandparents owned and personally ran the Ms. Hickory-Catawba Scholarship Pageant in Hickory, NC for many years. They "adopted" so many new girls into our family through this pageant. They spent many years traveling and judging pageants as well. Many times when I went to visit there were girls in their home training and practicing for an upcoming pageant, be it their pageant or another, they were always willing to help "their" girls.
Over the years, my grandparents moved to Florida. Although they did not run any pageants, they jumped in with both feet and started a local library among all of the other things they did. This sticks out the most to me because they let me help. I was able to help order children's books and give my input. That library helped so many people in need in that small community.
There are so many stories I could write about, but I will end here with this. My grandfather gave me away on my wedding day. Long story short, I was married in their living room and my father was not there, but even up to the last minute my grandfather kept telling me that he was sure my dad would show up. He did not, so he went and put on his tuxedo and met me back at the bathroom. He looked me square in the eye and said, "Well Cyndi, this is usually where I would tell my girls that there is an escape route because the bathroom in the churches are near the door, but since we are in the back of the house I am afraid you are stuck," and then we both laughed. He walked me out into the living room where I met my own knight in shining armor to start my own legacy - built on love and stubbornness.

Paying for College
Do you have kids in college?
I do.
2...plus myself.
So, my advice is this...if you do not have children, start saving for their college now.
If you are pregnant and have not started saving for their college...start now.
If you already have children and have not started saving...start now.
It is never, ever, ever too late to start saving for their college.
Unless of 'course you have three people in college at the moment with two more making plans and your budget is already stretched beyond what it can handle. This is where I am today. Thankfully we had VA for our oldest daughter to help her through the cost of university; but, even with that combined with a small pell grant, she is still needing to make monthly payments.
If totally sucks as a parent to realize that after all these years of encouraging my children to go to college that we have nothing saved up except the saving grace of the VA. Which helped me my first year back and will help our oldest for her last three years. But, I still have three more children to consider. The middle daughter is at community college with myself so therefore a pell grant will cover her. Ok, two down, two to go. How in the world do I start saving for these two when the budget barely covers what we have now.
Prayer.
It is all I have this afternoon.
Prayer that I will make the right decision in the coming new year to work out a better budget and set the record straight, in my mind, to start saving. Even if it is just a few thousand for each of the, it will make a difference. These two are university bound if I like it or not. And unless each of them win some major scholarship - could happen! - it is going to take many hours of working to have it all paid for and not leave my children with thousands of dollars in loans when they graduate.
I know, I know - it is NORMAL for people to graduate with loans. It might be normal, but I have decided that we - The Fifield Family of six - are not normal and therefore, will not have my children paying for their college ten years down the road in this economy and their own families to raise.
Why?
Because I know that that is not the way it should be. Maybe for some families, but not for mine. The Bible speaks of the poor being slave to the lender. This is so true and I have walked way to many miles in these shoes. So, I constantly encourage my children not to take loans or credit cards. I dutifully remind them of the times we have been house poor due to taking on too many loans or credit card debt and I gently remind them of the things we have gone without because of our poor decisions.
Hopefully, after all of this is said and done...they will listen.
Again, it is never too late to start saving...but you have to be willing to set that example for your children so that in turn they might learn from lessons and mistakes. Paying for my children's college is my decision to do. It is not for everyone, so do what is best for your family.
Proverb 22:7
The rich rules over the poor,
and the borrower is the slave of the lender.
and the borrower is the slave of the lender.
Christmas in North Carolina
Well, once again it has been a while since I posted on here. While cleaning my kitchen tonight - specifically the microwave at 1:30 am - I realized why I never bother to blog...while lead me on an hour journey of resetting my password just so that I could officially tell you why. Facebook. Seriously, Facebook is why I do not blog. Probably why I never really got into my blog in the first place. Why take the time here when I can easily post my frustration in two to five paragraphs on a site that I have almost 1,000 friends. Here - at the moment - I have three followers that I am aware of. Why bore them when they are probably on Facebook as well.
That is exactly what made me think - why not? At least on here no one is going to tell me I am wrong for getting on my soapbox, or for not being PC about my faith or my ideals on how life should run. At least no one ever has yet. Maybe that would change if I actually took the time to blog about the things that set me off instead of taking my chance on FB to begin with.
It is funny though, here it is hours after midnight on the day after Christmas, and instead of thinking about my long-awaited iPad or the tax classes I need to finish, I thought about my long forgotten blog that I started in 2011. One might think that Christmas in North Carolina is not that exciting that I am not spending my first blog back telling of the splendor of the day, but that is not true. Why my mind wondered here I may never know. But, the fact that I actually took the time to figure out how to get back into my account with multiple attempts and I am actually writing is a very good start to the end of an amazing year.
Christmas was amazing today. We had a very tight year with my hubs now retired and me being a full-time student. The children got all that their hearts desired, plus some unexpected surprises. Our bellies were filled with scrumptious food that will be waiting in the fridge for tomorrow, I mean today's meals. The turkey bones are in the crock-pot simmering to make homemade stock and amazingly my kitchen is clean. The living room not so much, but one can only do so much when a blog is attacking her mind.
I pray that you too had a splendid CHRISTmas and that you found joy in your day. May you also have remembered the true reason for the season and may that reason be a blessing for the days to come.
Merry CHRISTmas to all, and to all,
I bid you good night!
I bid you good night!

That dirty little word...
e x e r i s e.
yes, it is dirty.
it makes one sweaty and tired... &
s
t

n
k
y.
i do not like it at all. unfortunately, it is good for you.
so they say.
i keep searching for easy ways out, you know, liking and repining everything on pinterest that looks like it will make it easier. so far it all looks the same - h a r d.
i was a member of Curves for almost two years and did very well. it was a lot of fun, but after a while, you loose momentum, the desire to be dripping with sweat and panting for a breath. and once it was lost, i just could not find it again.
as a dancer, i know how much exercise is good for you, i really do. i love to dance. i dance all the time when no one is looking but i still have days where my toes are just too far away to reach. but there is just something about that word that makes one lazy...too lazy to even hit the shift bar to capitalize my capitols...just sayin'.
a few years ago a doctor really did tell me something similar to the cartoon above. seriously...though, i love to dance, i enjoy Zumba (not that it is fit for public view) and i enjoy belly dancing...there is a pattern to it all - it must be fun. amazingly though, fun does not remove the muffin fluffy stuff hanging around my belt line.
well, recently, i was advised by my doctor to attend hot yoga. being a christian woman, i had not considered this theory of painstakingly entangling my body in a hot steaming, humid room of other such bodies. it just doesn't sound fun. i still have yet to try it. i met an amazing, inspiring woman in my office that is doing hot yoga (as well as a regulated diet) that has lost over 60 pounds and has no stretch marks or hanging skin from doing this. infact, she looks amazing...
therefore, i pose this question...would you? and WHY would you?
it doesn't sound fun.
but i really do want to be healthy.
enjoy life.
live long.
see my great, great, great grandchildren's children.
(ok, so maybe that is a bit much but you get the idea)
in the meantime, i will stick with dancing with my Lord and Savior...making a joyful noise to Him and praying that my belly gets smaller and my toes move closer...can i have an amen?!?!?!?!
Psalm 150:4

Skeletons in the closet...
Yes, we all have them. Some are worse than others, some are unspeakable and some are so silly they are embarrassing. But the worse part is is when those skeletons begin to find their way out and God begins to pull those layers away to reveal who we truly have become in order to begin the healing process.
There are many skeletons in my closet from my childhood that I have refused to deal with over my forty something years. Things that I am finding that my family has a long history of and has continued to bury over the last century. I have spent the majority of my life protecting those I love from these skeletons, to include my baby sister and my children. Through an unexplained chain of events though, these skeletons are coming out and dragging more and more with them. Those that I have protected had already assumed what it was that I was keeping them from and some had already been told by others what was happened.
Not to reveal these skeletons as individuals, but as a whole abuse was the main culprit - all inclusive as any abuse may be thought of by anyone. But yet, it has happened, it is out.
I was abused as a child, and from what I am understanding, my father was too and therefore he feels that in his mind it was okay to abuse. Does that make it alright? No, ofcourse not, but it does make me undestand a bit more.
As a Christian woman, I have forgiven my father. I have even forgiven my mother. For years I was burdened with anger of her not protecting us forgetting that she was a victim herself. God calls us to love but he also calls us to forgive. It is not easy and forgiveness does not mean that what happened to me makes it okay, but it allows me to move forward. God forgives those that forgives themselves, forgives others.
Matthew 6:15
But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.
Luke 6:37
[ Judging Others ] “Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.
The skeletons will continue to fall out, and i will continue to grow with each one that falls. As God peels back the layers of my life, I will continue to grow and find new ministry in my life. It has not and will not be easy but I know that He will make me stronger as I grow through this period.
If you have skeletons in your closet, give them to God. Let me him help you with them, and allow yourself to grow from them. We are all called to love and forgive, be willing to admit your mistakes, ask for forgiveness and forgive those that have done you wrong. Then live in the freedom that comes from it all...begin to live life to the fullest and fulfill the calling on your life. Allow yourself to be more than just a fan, but to be a follower.

The promises of blogging...
Initially when I decided to blog (some where around many moons ago) I figured that it wouldn't be that hard. I love to write, I live to talk, I love to talk about the things I make and the things I love to do, so it can't be that hard to write about them - right?
Hmm, well, obviously it is harder than I thought. I am not just one to write about what my kids are doing on a daily basis, or even weekly (I tried that in a different blog - I think there were half a dozen post in a s many years) basis about homeschooling my four amazing children - that didn't work either. So, the question remains, what makes me tick and how do I write about it.
I love...
Bills
speaking
But how do I tell you - the world - about it without boring you to death?
Well, for one, at the moment, I won't write a daily log of what i had for dinner (not unless it is an awesome recipe I must share). And when I am sick (like the last few days) I promise not to get on here and whine about how miserable I feel (even if it is true).

crocheting

singing
dancing
reading

walking God
beaches lighthouses
animals
friends family
I also have to work...

Taxes

With that in mind, I will share about the items listed above, with the understanding that I am free to speak my opinion and not that of others - meaning, that if you don't like it, that's fine, this is how I feel not you. I promise to honor God in my writing, and to stay realistic in my approach...in the mean time, I pray that you are touched by my insights, inspired by my creations, and willing to come back the next time I post to see what else I am up to...
until then...
I'll be knee deep in my real estate books trying to pass this obnoxious test on the third of August. Prayers are greatly needed!!

Flustrating, yet...
Humbling.
Needless to say, I failed my exam yesterday. Not by much, mind you, but I did fail.
The first three questions told me it was a fail. They were so random. In fact,
it took half an hour today in my office for anyone to find the answer to one of them.
Just random fact of being a NC real estate agent. But, I have one under my
belt and will head back next week for another -
which will be a pass.
In the meantime, it is back to the books for another week of drowning myself in
facts that I will probably never need to know again, but you might, so you must know -
the important-in-someones-eyes facts... ya me!
But today is college registration for my girls and other fun
deeds of being a mom...like balancing the checkbook for the week and
preparing in advance for the weekly shopping (couponing!)
and figuring out what household chores are first on the list and ...
well, you get the picture.
So, my faithful friends, I will leave you with this: failure does not make a man, for one,
the word failure itself is not in the Bible*,
therefore, sitting here for twenty-four hours or more beating myself up over failing
an exam is useless... accept it, get over it and move on...tomorrow is a new
day and this day has worries of its own. (Matthew 6)
*Ok, so if you do a search on Bible Gateway and search every different translation
out there, then yes, you will eventually find the word failure,
but understanding that the word itself is not there is amazing in itself!

Today is the day...
Yes, nerves come in bundles...
especially when it comes to taking exams.
Amazingly I have spent the last three, no maybe four, weeks studying for this 40 question exam and still don't feel any better about it. Yes, I have passed practice exams, but I still mess up on the same type of questions. I really thought that the TX real estate exam was hard, but
the NC exam is just as hard.
In this beautiful state I have to remember constructions terms and that a survey is not necessary to close, but at the same time there is also all of the rental information that was a separate entity in TX, that will be part of my job here. I am amazed at the differences just right there, but that doesn't mean I remember it all.
In the morning I like to listen to Our Daily Bread on my phone. The very first verse given is
-John 16:33 -
"In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world."
Hmm, I know an exam isn't the type of tribulation that the verse is exactly speaking of, but honestly, it feels that way. Even as self-inflicted as it is (meaning that I am choosing to take this exam), I can't help but feel troubled, but can I be cheerful and trust that it is overcome? Of 'course I can, but I have to choose to do so.
Prayerfully, with that thought, I will keep my chin up and smile and remind myself that the worse that will happen is that I will fail and have to repeat the exam.
Yes, it will be very humbling, but at least then I know what to expect and will hopefully have a better understanding of what else I need to study and focus on.

Procrastination . . .
Yep, the word for today...
I need to study for my real estate exam, balance the check book, pay the bills and buy some grocieries (couponing!!) - but, I am just tired. Actually, beyond tired. Yes, I could have slept in for another hour, but then I would have been rushing to get my car to the shop for repairs and forfeited my quiet time this morning with my Lord and Savior, but after yesterday - Monday - actaully being a Monday, it was worth getting up on time.
Focus.
I don't have it today either...so, where do i go from here...
If you have lost your focus, or find yourself lost in procrastination, stop what you are doing, walk away, find a quiet corner to yourself and pray. Ask God to help you refocus and define which task need to be done first. Ask Him to order your day. Then, get a cup of coffee or some hot tea and just take a couple of minutes to listen to Him. You will be surprised at what He has to say to you today, just as I am always surprised.

So . . . obviously . . .
I'm not very good at blogging...
any ideas on how to get better?
(I could use some hints and tricks!! )
I am not even on FB lately due to my crazy schedule!
Since December, we have moved to a new duty station in beautiful NC! I live in Sandhills now, small town of Aberdeen, where I am currently studying for
my real estate liceanse!
I am a Texas Realtor but I am
transferring my license to NC since we plan to retire here!
I am still dancing, writing and anything in between!
So, please be patient with me as I rebuild my life...
and can continue becoming a "blogger". :O)
OH! And if you are looking for a great book to read... try...
Heaven is for Real

Happy New Year!!
Ok, so it has come to my attention that I am not very good at this blogging thing. I had great intentions these last six months but yet, it was an epic fail. So, maybe in 2012 i will get it together in the midst of working, going to college, homeschooling my four amazing children, moving cross country and let's not forgot being a wife and trying to keep up with my favorite past times of sewing and crafting... maybe some where in the midst of all that I will fill in the blanks on my blog!
It has been a very fruitful and busy last six months though. I went to tax school through H&R Block, and was able to secure a position with the company. My oldest daughter, Brittany, and I both started college classes and we managed to have a wonderful Christmas even though I was out of work for a year.
God is good.
All the time.
As we head into 2012, I pray that you will all be blessed and thankful for what God has done for you this last year. Continue to trust in Him as we venture forward by leaps and bounds into a new year and a new season of our lives.
And with that...I'll see you on the flip side!

But our juicer has finally arrived and hubs doesn't want to wait!!
We are using the Breville Juice Fountain Plus used on
Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead.
Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead.
Tonight we are making the 'Mean Geen' from the doumentary.
4 celery stalks
1 cucumber
1 thumb size portion of ginger
1/2 lemon
2 green apples
6 leaves of Kale
(These are mixed into the picture to the
right...picture is of what i just bought!)
Not knowing exactly what we are doing,
we begin putting everything in one at a time...
Can you see the foam at the top?
I think that was from the lemon...not sure, but it smells like celery.
I think that was from the lemon...not sure, but it smells like celery.
So, here goes nothing....
UHHHH...not at ALL what I expected!!
Will take some time to get use to it!
SMELL: still of celery, slight ginger
TASTE: spicy, can taste the ginger,
must cut back on the ginger!! Makes my eyes WATER!!
TEXTURE: very, very juice like,
wasn't sure since I have been juicing thru a blender with fruit.

So, there we have it...the official start,
but I am NOT claiming this as Day 1!!
Must research other recipes,
find better flavor matches for my taste buds!!
(something a little sweeter would do nicely!)

Completed Projects!
Ok, so it is taking me longer to post here
than I originally thought it would!
Mainly because I can't remember how or when I load pics onto my laptop!
If only I could blog from my phone!!
(And yes, I own a camera, but with 4 kids... I am lucky to know where my phone is!)
Anyhoos...here are some pics of my work from the last two months!
My first sock monkey!
Took about 2 weeks of on & off crocheting to finish. I gave this one to my oldest Daughter, Brittany!
My first baby shoes! These are in the mail to a very special little girl!
My first baby doll - called Mini Lulu. In the mail to a special niece!
And 2 Chemo hats for a special friend and her mom!
I have definitely stayed busy. I did finish the Leaf Scarf but no pics yet and I am pretty sure that I have done more! Just can't remember what! But I am trying my best to load everything as I go! And will hopefully be better at posting as I go as well!!

And then the ceiling fell...
Yes, it has already started out as 'one of THOSE days'.
You know, the kind that make you want to go back to bed...
So, I am already up, listening to some awesome music, taking pictures of my project to show you...
~the leaf scarf~
~chemo hat~
And recently finished...
~rolled hat~
~needled tatted bookmark, given away at Christmas~
Yes, I was enjoying my morning...
and then the roof came down...
when? how? not really sure of the exact answers...
sometime during the night, thought the kids were up - who knew what was truly happening!!
So, when your hubs wakes you up before the sun...
it isn't always good news. Oh, the joys of living in military quarters. The maintenance guy -tho holding back laughter- informed me that they had been there since the house had been built -
hmmm, if I remember correctly,
that was the EARLY '70's!
And no one thought to check this stuff before letting us move in last year? Ok, so maybe that is our responsibility, who knows...this house had taken a beating before they let our zoo in here...we just get the privilege of ... putting...it...back...together...again!
Up and Running
Well, so I hope that I am...my goal here? To hopefully, once in a blue moon,
share my creative side. I love to sew and make things. Crochet, knit, needle tat,
make soap, paper crafts...and dance! Whatever and where ever the wind may blow
me that day is where I end up. Hopefully, this blog will encourage me to be
creative on a more stable basis and you will be blessed by what I share!

Right now I am working on:
~ a Leaf Style knitted scarf for my mom - 2 years in the making...
~ a few chemo crocheted hats for a few friends...
~ flag and color ideas for Easter...
~ choreography for 3, no 4 I think dances for this Spring...
Ok, so just a few things on my plate. Besides this, I homeschool my
four beautiful, talented children. They range in age from 9 to 17! I am blessed
to be a military wife of 20 years now, I love my hubs with all my heart,
and wouldn't trade it for anything!
